BHP Billiton New Mexico Coal operates surface and underground mines with interesting and challenging opportunities.
The
Specialist Survey is responsible for gathering the required survey
information and creating reports to support the mine's operations. This
position will provide secondary supervision to the survey group,
coordinate volumetric flights, review regulatory submissions for survey
accuracy as well as undertake capital investment evaluations and be
involved in mine improvement and/or investigation teams as needed. This
position is responsible for ensuring that each task is performed
according to established safety, environmental and survey principles.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES• Demonstrate and support the BHP Billiton Charter and the Code of Business Conduct.
- Promote and support the overall health, safety and work environment by implementing and assisting in the enforcement of the requirements of the New Mexico Coal Health and Safety Programs.
- Implement the BHP Billiton Sustainable Development Policy and HSEC Management Standards along with the New Mexico Coal Company's Environmental Management System (EMS).
- Review survey data and certify survey maps in preparation for submittal to regulatory agencies.
- Perform survey duties to locate the coal seam structures and topographies.
- Conduct certified inspections for work areas in which survey personnel are required to work.
- Schedule and coordinate aerial flight surveys including the creation of purchase requisitions and receipt of invoices.
- Import field data into the mine's computer aided drafting (CAD) software package accurately and file data.
- Complete volumetric calculation and monthly reporting of quantities to internal customers and regulatory agencies.
- Perform survey duties for construction projects in the form of staking, grade control and scanning for volumetric calculations.
- In the absence of the Supervisor Survey provide supervision of survey personnel.
- Perform other assignments as directed to meet business needs.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field – OR – an Associate's Degree in a related field, a certificate in Drafting, AutoCAD, GIS or Surveying and three to five years of experience required; registered Professional Surveyor in the state of New Mexico, or the ability to obtain status within 12 months, and experience in a surface mining environment highly desirable.
- Demonstrable proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, survey equipment and engineering software including GPS Survey Equipment, Trimble, Laser, Scanner, Total Station, AutoCAD, and Vulcan.
- Possess strong planning and organizing skills for the purpose of leading multiple projects along with a proven ability to work effectively with, and motivate, survey team members.
- Must be able to prioritize and deliver on customer requirements and engage internal and external customers effectively.
- Ability to work overtime and weekends on short notice as well as the ability to work in varying environments, (temperature, dust and adverse weather conditions), is mandatory.
- Must be aware of the hazards and risks involved in the mining environment and demonstrate a pattern of conduct consistent with the acceptance of responsibility for encouraging a safe work environment.
- Consistent history of satisfactory performance, including attendance, is mandatory.
